Myo Activation Treatment
Myo Activation Information
- Myo Activation is a specialized kind of myofascial release developed by Dr. Greg Siren in Victoria, BC.
- Examination is a little different than the usual examination and uses the awareness that muscles and fascia connect throughout the whole body in a way that has become known as “anatomy trains.” This means that pains may originate from places remote from where the pain is being felt.
- Myo Activation treats myofascial pain. It can help many different soft tissue pain conditions such as low back pain, migraines, other headaches, TMJ pain, shoulder pain, frozen shoulder pain, hip, leg, knee pains, pelvic pain to mention a few.
- The needling is similar yet different from other techniques you may have tried such as acupuncture, IMS, other dry needling techniques or trigger point releases. Minimal liquid is injected in this kind of myofascial release.
- Myo Activation also helps releases scars that result in adherence of various myofascial layers so can really release the tension and thereby reduce pain and increase function.
- The needling can feel like a prick, pinch, local twitch, achiness, burning or warmth. Sometimes emotional releases can also occur, as this can release locally held trauma.
- A very, very tiny risk is of needling into the lung causing air in the lung area or pneumothorax. If you feel short of breath after a thoracic area treatment, please go to Emergency. This is a very, very rare potential complication and may rarely be serious needing treatment.
- Another low risk is of infection. However, in areas that are more prone to infection, I will be cleaning the area, but now we mostly do not sterilise an area before needling.
Aftercare
- Mild soreness at the treatment sites is common and usually temporary. Bruising is common. Most people experience improvement in function and reduction in pain and may also change the symptoms as the body “unwinds” the tensions in the body.
- Other common symptoms include temporary fatigue, cramping and rarely actual flareups of pain as your body releases and heals.
- Be gentle with yourself, don’t do too much but move a little every hour after a treatment for about 5 days after a treatment. This allows for the body changes to evolve gently.
- Track your changes and discuss with me.
